My son asked me that recently. And it wasn’t just about a piece of writing — it was a question about what’s real, what’s ours, and where we fit in a world that’s changing fast.
Like many of you, I’ve been leaning into AI lately — using tools like ChatGPT and Gemini to help craft emails, write social captions, build templates, and navigate the mountain of work we all carry.
- But I’ve also been sitting with something deeper:
- Are we losing something when we let AI do the talking?
- Are we still thinking for ourselves?
- Where do we draw the line between efficiency and essence?
I don’t have all the answers. But I want to share where I’ve landed — and maybe it’ll resonate with you, too.
👩💻When AI Supports — Not Replaces
A Blueprint for Human-Augmented Work
We’ve got a sharp young woman working with us this summer. She’s studying to become a teacher, and she recently shared that she doesn’t use AI to help with her work — because she wants to keep using her brain.
And honestly? She’s right.
Sometimes the work needs to be 100% human.
Sometimes the thinking is the whole point.
Sometimes slow matters.
But other times — especially when the load is heavy — AI can be a powerful ally. Not to replace the thinking, but to unclog the bottlenecks. To structure the thoughts already inside you. To free up energy for the work only a human can do.
That’s not dumbing down.
That’s smart delegation with integrity.
🤖The Braid: A Methodology for Modern Success
I call it the braid.
- AI alone is clever.
- Humans alone are soulful.
- But braided? That’s where the future lives.
We’ve already seen it at Noralta:
- A single mom juggling three deals and home life — AI helps her write captions faster so she can be present at dinner.
- A new agent unsure how to respond to a tough lead — AI helps her draft a message she can tweak and make her own.
- A leader (hi, it’s me) — leaning on AI as a co-strategist to clarify direction and keep momentum when the stakes are high.
In all of these moments, the human is steering.
AI is just pedaling alongside.
📍Where Do I Fit?
Right Where Soul Meets System
That’s the big question I keep coming back to:
Where do I fit in all of this?
What I’ve come to realize is:
I fit exactly where the braid meets.
Between soul and system.
Between thought and tool.
Between who I’ve been and who I’m becoming.
This isn’t just about real estate. It’s also about how we navigate grief, purpose, overwhelm, and growth. It’s how we live and lead — with tools that support us, not replace us.
So, if you’ve ever asked yourself…
- “Am I cheating by using AI?”
- “Am I losing something by not doing it all myself?”
- “Will people still see me behind the work?”
Let me offer this:
You are still you.
You’re not being replaced — you’re being amplified.
And that’s not just efficient.
