January 11, 1943 – May 29, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Kenneth Wayne Shearer, founder of Royal LePage Noralta Real Estate.
Ken’s legacy is woven into the history of our brokerage, the Alberta real estate industry, and the many people whose careers and lives he influenced along the way. He was a respected leader, mentor, builder, colleague, and friend.
Born in Toronto, Ken developed an early passion for handball and the YMCA before finding his calling in real estate. After nearly three decades with Royal LePage and its predecessor organizations, he founded Royal LePage Noralta in 1999 to serve Edmonton and the surrounding area. His vision was clear: to build a brokerage rooted in professionalism, integrity, community, and genuine care for people.
Ken understood that real estate was never just about property. It was about families, relationships, trust, and helping people move through some of the most important moments of their lives. That belief became part of the foundation of Royal LePage Noralta and continues to guide our work today.
Throughout his career, Ken served the industry with distinction, including as President of both the Edmonton Real Estate Board and the Alberta Real Estate Association. His leadership helped shape organized real estate in Alberta, and his influence extended well beyond the walls of the brokerage he built.
At Noralta, Ken helped create a culture centred on service, collaboration, mentorship, and community involvement. Many of the values that continue to define our organization today can be traced back to the example he set.
Community. Empowerment. Excellence. Integrity. Leadership. Passion. Service.
These were not simply words to Ken. They were standards he lived by and encouraged others to carry forward.
Ken also believed deeply in giving back. The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation has long reflected the idea that real estate professionals have a responsibility to support and strengthen the communities they serve. That commitment remains an important part of who we are as a brokerage today.
His life was full and vibrant, marked by leadership, adventure, generosity, humour, and devotion to family and friends. Together with his wife Gailene, Ken built a life filled with skiing, camping, and lake life. Sundance Meadows was his happy place, where campfires, boating, sauna rituals, and legendary breakfasts brought everyone together. Even as Alzheimer’s gradually took hold in his final years, his kindness and humour never faded.

As we reflect on Ken’s life, we are reminded that strong organizations are built by people who invest in others. Ken did exactly that. His impact can be seen in the brokerage he founded, the professionals he mentored, the clients served under the Noralta banner, and the relationships that continue because of the foundation he helped build.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gailene; his sons, Bill (Cindy), Tom (Kathleen), and Patrick (Tracey); and his grandchildren, Julia, Liam, Shyann, Marin, Norah, Claire, Andrew, Hanna, Emily, and Sam.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at the University of Alberta Hospital, units 5A2 and 5G2, for the exceptional care, compassion, and sensitivity shown to Ken throughout his stay.
On behalf of everyone at Royal LePage Noralta Real Estate, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Gailene, Bill, Tom, Patrick, and the entire Shearer family.
Ken will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
His legacy lives on in the company he founded, the values he championed, and the many lives he touched.
Thank you, Ken.
